Submission FAQs

Why does Applied Medical only accept ideas on a non-confidential basis?

When it comes to the submission of ideas, the risks associated with confidential relationships and obligation of secrecy are too great for us to accept. If we were to accept ideas on a confidential basis, we would run the risk of jeopardizing the ideas that we conceive of and develop internally. In order to ensure that we can continuously introduce new and innovative products quickly and efficiently, we cannot enter into any relationships that have the potential to restrict the ingenuity and inventiveness of our own engineers and scientists.

What factors does Applied Medical consider when it evaluates an idea?

When we evaluate an idea, there are a number of factors that we consider. First, we consider whether the idea fits with our business model and product offering. As a new generation medical device company, we pursue ideas that enable us to provide products that satisfy clinical and economic needs. Therefore, when we receive an idea we evaluate factors such as the manufacturability and clinical impact of the idea.

We also consider whether or not the idea is new to us and the industry. Due to our strong investment in R&D, and the rich knowledge of our team members, we often receive submissions for ideas that our own team has already conceived of and possibly already started developing. When we receive ideas of interest, we also consider whether the idea is patentable and whether it has already been patented by another party.

What should I expect if I choose to submit my idea?

As soon as you submit your idea, you will receive an automated email response confirming that your idea was successfully submitted. Within fifteen business days, your idea will undergo a preliminary review by one of our Idea Submission Committee members. If your idea has the potential to complement or enhance our current product offering, it will be scheduled for review at the Committee's next idea review session. Throughout the review process, we will send you updates on the status of your submission via email.

What should I do if I have a question that has not been answered by the information provided on your website?

If you have a submission question that has not been answered, please feel free to email: SubmitAnIdeaQuestion@appliedmedical.com.

(Please note that all idea submissions must be submitted through our online Idea Submission Portal.)
